The West Salem Board approved a memorandum of understanding to continue a partnership with Goodwill Industries of North Central Wisconsin that gives students with disabilities paid workplace experience and soft-skills training. Heidi (speaker 10) said the relationship has allowed a handful of students each year to learn retail skills, be paid for training, and in some cases move into paid employment at Goodwill or other local employers.
Heidi told the board the program typically serves about three to four students annually because neighboring districts also participate, and that the district would like to continue the relationship under the MOU. The board moved and approved the MOU by voice vote.
Board members praised the partnership as a strong option for transition-age students and encouraged staff to continue documenting outcomes.
