Board approves Project SEARCH agreement to expand transition services
Summary

The West Salem School District board approved a resolution to enter an agreement with Holman to continue Project SEARCH transition services for students with disabilities. Heidi (speaker 10) told the board the program partners the district with Holman, Amplify Health, the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation and Aptive to give students aged roughly 18–21 workplace training and experience before exiting the high school program.
Heidi said the district applied for and received a transition grant from the Department of Public Instruction that will pay the tuition for the student accepted into the program. The board moved and passed the resolution by voice vote; Trish (speaker 2) made the motion and Nick seconded.
Board discussion emphasized that the program typically serves three to four students annually across participating districts and that the district has seen students gain employment outcomes after participating. The board approved the agreement without amendment.
