Commission approves Beacon Hill entry and pool, sends garage redesign back to Nov. 10

The commission on Oct. 14 approved part one of the application for 8 Beacon Hill Road — the reduced east entry and the backyard pool — while continuing the garage portion for further redesign. Applicant counsel J. Russell Jackson (speaker 14) and architect Mark Rapp (speaker 11) presented updated materials and renderings showing a reduced entry roof and a smaller, two‑bay garage.
Commissioners repeatedly criticized the massing of the proposed garage and asked for revised dormer proportions and a reduced visual scale before granting approval. "I still have issues with the massing of it and its presence on the lot," said one commissioner (speaker 4) during deliberations. The commission voted to split the application into two parts, approving the east elevation and pool and continuing the garage to the Nov. 10 meeting for revised plans and further review.
