The City Building Commission approved a variance Oct. 10 allowing a 4-foot iron fence and gate at 609 Pupino Bend to encroach approximately 19.5 feet into the 25-foot street-side setback.
Owner Seth described repeated incidents in which people entered his driveway late at night and delivery vehicles damaged the sprinklered yard because the driveway slopes and turnarounds are tight. "We already had had 1 incident in the late night where someone actually came all the way into our driveway," he said, explaining that a gate and camera would provide deterrence and privacy for older family members who live at the house.
Staff showed the street-view plan and explained the fence and gate location relative to the setback; after no public comment the commission moved to approve the variance and passed the measure by voice vote with no opposition recorded. The applicant said the gate location was chosen to avoid impacting neighbors and to mark the end of the cul-de-sac.
