The Lakeway City Building Commission voted Oct. 10 to approve a variance allowing a 4-foot iron fence on the rear property line at 3407 Saltillo Court that would encroach into the 25-foot golf-course setback.
Owner Mildred Ann Gordon told the commission she moved to the home seven months ago and wants a fence so her 3-year-old grandson and the family's puppy cannot access a nearby sand pit at the golf course. "I have a 3 year old grandson who wants to go to play in the sand pit at the golf course," she said, adding she had spoken with golfers who "didn't have a problem with it." She said she had a survey and had adjusted a rock wall and drainage to keep the work on her property.
After no public comment, a motion to approve the fence variance was moved and seconded and passed by voice vote with no opposition recorded. Staff had told the commission the proposed fence would result in an encroachment of 25 feet into the 25-foot golf-course setback without the variance; the approved plan places a 4-foot iron fence on the rear line while the applicant said she will keep the fence inside the existing stonewall and resolve drainage concerns.
