Clerk Sally read the staff description of the request from property owners Russell and Kim Neil; the owner who addressed the commission described the site as built on cap rock and said the original pool (installed in about 1980) sat on a small pedestal and that rebuilding required drilling piers and substantial structural work. "I've got 7 grandkids in the area, so I need a bigger pool," the owner said.
Commissioners asked about sight lines, the existing masonry wall and fence on the property line, and whether neighboring property owners supported the request; the applicant said he had submitted at least one supportive email from a neighbor (the McShanes). The commission closed public comment, a member moved to approve the variance and the motion passed on a voice vote with no opposition recorded.
The request referenced the Lakeway code of ordinances setback requirement; the approved variance allows the pool-deck construction to proceed as presented. The commission did not record a roll-call tally on the record; the approval was taken by voice vote. The commission moved on to the next agenda item.
