KGI Wireless frames tower as local infrastructure fix, offers RF testing and revenue sharing

KGI Wireless told the Zoning and Planning Commission the proposed Serene Hills site would address coverage gaps in Old Lakeway and Rough Hollow and provide options for wireless broadband to homes. Presenter Jeremy, who identified himself as a local resident and KGI representative, showed carrier coverage maps, described antenna geometry and explained why city-owned property and elevation made the site suitable.

Jeremy said he had talked with Lake Travis Fire/Rescue and Lakeway Police and that poor cellular coverage had hindered access to online tools and incident-location accuracy. “The poor cellular coverage impacts the department access to online tools, applications, and it can impact response times or incident locations,” he said. He also described business terms: KGI would build and insure the tower, propose base ground rent to the city, and offer revenue sharing as additional carriers are added. He acknowledged FAA and FCC reviews would follow zoning and building-permit approvals and offered to publish RF measurements taken at the school boundary for each carrier to demonstrate compliance with FCC thresholds.

KGI representatives explained design tradeoffs — taller, standard towers allow multiple carriers and capacity, while camouflaged or monopine designs can limit antenna capacity and coverage area. Commissioners requested propagation maps and clearer carrier-level coverage projections; KGI said those maps are proprietary but that informal carrier discussions supported the site selection.
