Trustees on May 28 approved a Memorandum of Understanding between the Board and the Brecksville-Broadview Heights Education Association that modifies the collective bargaining agreement’s notice date for retirement/resignation for the 2025–2026 school year only. The MOU allows bargaining-unit members who become newly eligible for retirement under revised STRS rules (32 years for unreduced benefit; 27 for reduced benefit) to provide an irrevocable resignation/retirement letter by May 23, 2025 and retain certain summer stretch-pay and insurance benefits through the final payroll of the current school year.
Board packet materials show the MOU is explicitly limited to the 2025–2026 school year and includes a non-precedent clause stating neither party intends the modification to change long-term contract language. Trustees moved the item and approved it 5–0; the motion was made by Tish Kwiatkowski and seconded by Ellen Kramer.
