Heritage Pines Board approves $19,200 Premier Lakes contract to treat pond algae

The Heritage Pines Community Development District Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Oct. 15 to award a pond-algae treatment contract to Premier Lakes, Inc. The contract totals $19,200 and, according to District Manager Chuck Adams, represents an annual savings of about $3,200 compared with the SOLitude contract.
Mr. Adams said he would initiate SOLitude’s 30-day termination clause so Premier Lakes could commence service on Dec. 1, 2024. He reviewed the scope of services for the board. On a motion by Supervisor Michael Walsh, seconded by Supervisor Carol Vaughan, the board approved the Premier Lakes proposal.
Resident Susan Napolitano asked what chemical SOLitude applies to the lakes; Mr. Adams replied, “a copper-based product is used to target algae. The odor is a product of the degasification of the algae, which lasts a couple of days.” The board did not debate a chemical alternative in detail during the meeting.
The district manager said he will contact SOLitude about its recent performance and indicated he believes it is reasonable to hold SOLitude 50% responsible for deficiencies; he did not report a negotiated compensation amount at the meeting. The board’s action documents and the Premier Lakes scope will be included in the district file for the vendor transition.
