Colorado ISD approves teacherage design and construction agreements, eyes April 2026 groundbreaking

The Colorado Independent School District Board of Trustees on March 23 approved separate agreements to move the district's teacher housing project into design and construction phases.
Trustees voted unanimously to hire Bichel & Associates, Inc., as the independent design representative and to select KF Construction LLC as the design-build contractor, delegating authority to the superintendent to negotiate and execute the contracts. Jamie Alvarez moved to approve the design-representative agreement; Veronica Boone seconded the motion and the board voted 7'Yea, 0'Nay.
Dr. Larry Polk told trustees the district approved the agreements "for the protection of the district" and outlined timing uncertainties. He said sewer and water delays linked to City planning and zoning remain outstanding and that a septic alternative has been discussed. "Hopefully this will be cleared up and offer a possible April 2026 groundbreaking on this project," Polk said.
The board recorded the design-build motion as made by Ty Wood and seconded by John Martinez; that motion also passed unanimously. The meeting record delegates final contract negotiation and execution authority to the superintendent, and does not indicate final contract dollar amounts in the board minutes.
Next steps listed by the district include finalizing negotiated terms, resolving utility and permitting issues with the City of Colorado City, and scheduling pre-construction activities once contracts are executed.
