Lakeland board adopts six TSBA resolutions, including teacher license and cybersecurity asks

The board considered and approved six proposed resolutions to submit to the Tennessee School Boards Association for 2026–27. Dr. Horrell summarized each resolution’s intent, which included requests to ease reinstatement of recently lapsed educator licenses, provide flexibility in issuing teaching permits for high-need positions, state investment in K–12 network infrastructure and cybersecurity, continued investment in the Tennessee HOPE scholarship and dual-enrollment grants, and measures to broaden or fully fund mandated special education preschool services.
Board members discussed practical implications and expressed support for Miss Childs’ legislative work (Miss Childs was not present). After a brief discussion the board approved the slate of resolutions by voice vote. Dr. Horrell said the resolutions serve both as the board’s legislative agenda and potential proposals for TSBA consideration.
