Lakeland reports 64% ELA, 60% math proficiency; district sets targets to raise achievement

Deputy Superintendent Dr. Angie Deloso presented the Lakeland School System’s preliminary 2025–26 achievement data, reporting roughly 64% proficiency in English language arts and about 60% in math across tested grades. She noted science and growth measures were not yet available and will be added when released.

Deloso highlighted subgroup trends: economically disadvantaged students showed about a 0.5 percentage-point increase in ELA, English learners improved by roughly 6%, and the special education subgroup saw an ELA decrease of approximately 8.9 percentage points. At the grade-band level, 3rd–5th graders were about 71% proficient in ELA while 6th–8th graders were around 57% proficient. She also cited particularly strong early-grade results — "2nd grade ELA students were 92.3 percent proficient," she said, and second-grade math proficiency was cited at 85.1%.

The district reported AP, dual-enrollment and industry credentials metrics for Lakeland Preparatory School’s early graduating cohorts and proposed annual measurable outcome goals to increase ELA to 68% and math to 65%. Deloso described interventions, coordinated planning among specialists, and classroom walks by instructional leaders as strategies to reach those targets.
