COLORADO ISD board adopts Lone Star Governance framework, plans community training

The COLORADO ISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously Feb. 9 to approve Lone Star Governance (LSG) items and endorsed community engagement steps recommended by the district's LSG coach.
LSG Coach Dave Plymale, who joined by Zoom, proposed several outreach tactics including hosting LSG 101 sessions for residents, virtual town halls, brochures, a board goals night and posting short videos on the district website. Principal Lorianne Toombs reported that Goal 1 (K Math) and Goal 2 (2nd reading) were on target, and Superintendent Dr. Larry Polk discussed teacher retention in the context of the district's Tier Teacher Report. Trustee Ty Wood moved to approve the governance items and Trustee John Martinez seconded; the motion carried 6–0 with one member absent.
Board members also completed a self-evaluation of governance performance and added points to their instrument to guide future oversight. The board recorded its approval of the LSG items as a formal action, delegating implementation steps to staff as appropriate.
The vote ensures the district will proceed with both internal governance work and the community-facing engagement Plymale outlined. The item was raised and decided during the LSG portion of the agenda and recorded as an approved motion.
