The Gallup City Council unanimously approved on March 10 a Restaurant A (beer and wine) liquor license for 305 Fire LLC, a downtown eatery at 305 S. Second Street, following a quasi‑judicial public hearing.
Mayor Marc DePauli opened the hearing and outlined the legal standards—statutory compliance, zoning and whether issuance would be detrimental to public health, safety or morals—stating that "generalized testimony regarding alcohol's negative effects is not legally sufficient for denial." Applicants Chuck and Jennifer (Jennie) Van Drunen described their 16‑month downtown business and said they have completed required server training; supporter Rose Eason and organizer Matt Shepherd testified in favor of the license, referencing the business's positive downtown impact.
Applicants said no prior liquor-license denials or revocations are associated with them and indicated the business will follow the 60/40 state requirement that at least 60% of sales be food. Jennifer Van Drunen said they are "walking into this with eyes wide open" about responsibilities and expressed a preference that 305 Fire be known for pizza first, not as a place primarily for drinks. Councilor Ron Molina moved to approve the license and the council voted 5–0 to grant the Restaurant A license. The city clerk administered oaths to witnesses and the council recorded a unanimous roll call approval.
