Gallup council authorizes up to $1.75 million to complete Senior Center construction

Wargo detailed ten items to be funded, including curb and sidewalk replacement for ADA compliance, a generator for emergency-shelter function, security fencing, a walking trail, raised planter beds, xeriscape landscaping and patio furniture. Mackenzie‑Chavez explained the term "value engineering" as used in the staff report and said items were prioritized to ensure the facility is complete before opening. Councilor Ron Molina moved to approve the funding authorization; the council voted unanimously to adopt the budget adjustment.
Staff said using the previously allocated City funds and State Aging Bureau grants avoids reverting the money to the General Fund and supports timely completion of the center. The motion authorized staff to expend available grant and city funds for the listed improvements.
