Facilities & Safety Committee details skatepark repairs, safety upgrades and community projects

At its Jan. 9 meeting the Facilities & Safety Committee reviewed maintenance tasks, confirmed Gillis Construction would begin skatepark concrete repairs Jan. 13, ordered parallel parking signs for Creekside Skatepark, discussed prescribed burns and a community workday, and noted several facility rentals and grant developments.
The Facilities & Safety Committee met Jan. 9 and covered a range of maintenance and safety items. Brian Grant told the committee that Gillis Construction was scheduled to begin repairs on the skatepark’s crumbling concrete on Monday, Jan. 13. Maintenance staff reported roof washing, rail repairs at the Community Center, replacement of vandalized restroom hardware at Creekside and continued minor repairs to the district Ford Ranger.
Committee members also discussed public‑safety preparations: PGE installed an Automatic Transfer Switch on the Community Center to prepare for Public Safety Power Shutoffs; 'Parallel Parking Only' signs were ordered for Creekside Skatepark to remove the need to back into Bohemian Highway; and Nick Thayer proposed prescribed burns at several district sites (Monte Rio Fire to evaluate timing). The committee accepted a revised facilities rate proposal and staff reported a near‑final grant from Orange County Coastkeeper for a floating beach wheelchair. The Amphitheater is booked for a concert series on May 31 and June 1; the commercial kitchen received a PASS placard from the Health Department on Jan. 6.
