The Montebello Unified School District Board of Education on May 6 adopted Resolution No. 21, ratifying the Administrative Law Judge's proposed decision in OAH Case No. 2026040072 and directing staff to issue final layoff notices to affected classified management employees for the 2026–2027 school year.
Assistant Superintendent Zepure Hacopian told the board that the District previously approved a reduction in force due to lack of funds and/or lack of work, and staff had reduced positions through attrition and other measures; 15 layoff notices had been sent and six employees requested RIF hearings. The District received the ALJ’s proposed decision after the agenda was published; Education Code Section 45117 requires final layoff notices to be served before May 15, 2026. President Liliana Magana moved adoption of Resolution No. 21 and Ms. Gutierrez seconded; the motion carried on a roll-call vote with all members recorded as "aye."
The resolution authorizes ratification of the final, amended Classified Reduction In Force FTE chart and the issuance of final layoff notices consistent with the ALJ recommendation. The minutes note the District will file the final resolution with the official minutes; copies of Resolution No. 21 are attached to the official minute packet.
