The Bennet City Council on Jan. 19 directed the city attorney's office to negotiate a five‑year renewal of the U.S. Post Office lease and approved Resolution 2026‑1.2 authorizing a single five‑year term. Mayor Ryan Cheney reintroduced the lease renewal and Matt Blaser, city attorney colleague, reviewed renewal options; the council asked Blaser to work with the Postal Service leasing agent and return a negotiated agreement at the February meeting.
The motion to approve Resolution 2026‑1.2 was made by Councilman Dan Zieg and seconded by Jesse Schmidt; the roll call vote recorded Buck, Schmidt, Simmons and Zieg as voting YES and the motion carried. Council did not set final lease terms at the meeting and tasked the attorney to negotiate specifics before the next meeting.
