Career Services to revamp vocational rehab, host apprenticeship forum Sept. 16

Career Services announced structural changes to its vocational rehabilitation services and plans for an apprenticeship forum intended to connect job seekers, employers and training partners.
"They're gonna have established field days so that if you call and say, do we have a voc rehab counselor? I can tell you that they'll be in Salazar on a specific date of the month," Diane Kelly said, describing a new schedule that aims to make counselors more available at field offices. She also said Career Services will host an apprenticeship forum on Wednesday, Sept. 16 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with speakers from the Department of Labor, Home Builders Institute and local industry partners.
Kelly named several presenters expected at the forum, including representatives from contractor groups, a manufacturing alliance speaker and local union halls; the forum will cover best practices and aims to streamline employer paperwork through a designated Career Services liaison after the event. She said the department is also exploring a hub for advanced trade training at Job Corps to provide plumbing, electrical and other trade pathways.
