Los Lunas to donate surplus breathing-air system to Rio Arriba County fire department

Fire Chief John Gabaldon informed the Board on May 21 that the village's breathing-air compressor and fill station purchased in 2008 is now incompatible with the department's upgraded 5,000-PSI air cylinders and is surplus to operational needs.
Chief Gabaldon said the equipment was originally valued at approximately $36,000 and that, following coordination with the State Fire Marshal's Office, the department had identified a fire department in Rio Arriba County as the donation recipient. Councilor James Runyon moved to approve the donation and Councilor Gino Romero seconded; the motion passed 3-0.
Chief Gabaldon also told the Board that additional surplus fire equipment may be brought forward for similar donation consideration at future meetings.
