Los Lunas approves 6.35% raise and expanded bereavement leave for firefighters

Human Resources Director Marcos Castillo presented a proposed collective bargaining agreement between the Village of Los Lunas and the Los Lunas Fire Fighters Association Local 4297 on May 21. Castillo said the contract incorporates a 6.35% wage increase consistent with a previously approved compensation study and provides an additional 24 hours of bereavement leave for firefighters, for a total of 48 hours.
Castillo described the agreement as a mid-term contract that expires at the end of Fiscal Year 2027, at which time contract items will return to negotiations. Councilor James Runyon moved to approve the agreement and Councilor Gino Romero seconded; the motion passed 3-0 (Romero, Runyon, Chavez recorded as voting yes).
The Board did not record modifications to benefit funding sources in the minutes; Castillo described the changes as implementation of the earlier compensation study and a temporary contract term through FY2027.
