Director of Athletics (Coach Scriven) told trustees the district had roughly 1,585 student-athletes last year—about 13% of the district enrollment—and recognized recent leadership hires at several high schools and middle-school coordinator roles. He told trustees the department produced a handbook distributed to athletic directors that standardizes eligibility, discipline and coaching expectations across schools.
Scriven emphasized safety and training requirements: coaches and athletic directors must complete four NFHS-sponsored online classes (concussion, heat-illness prevention, sudden cardiac arrest, child protection) and CPR/first-aid certification before being in the field. He described a shift toward behavior interventions that teach students following consequences rather than automatically removing them from athletics. Scriven said the handbook was shared and the department is collecting feedback from principals and coaches.
