Polly Vanderpooten said the district's band and orchestra programs remain strong and that teachers have asked the community for donations of quality used instruments and binders to meet demand. "We have super successful band and orchestra programs, put out a request ... For anyone who has quality enough used instruments," Vanderpooten said, pointing to a specific need at Hunt Middle School.
Gary Golden and others recalled marching-band camps and band traditions that help students prepare for the school year; Golden described band camp and his own experience with trombone and service in the Air Force as part of those musical traditions. Commissioners urged residents with usable instruments to reach out to school administrators or the district office so teachers can be connected with donations.
