Community groups, churches and PTOs ramp up back-to-school supplies; district seeks instruments for music program

Polly Erickson described community organizers staging a neighborhood back-to-school supplies fair, saying the Essex Alliance Church typically runs a supplies event that serves children across ages. "They do a back to school supplies, like, fair for all the kids in the neighborhood," Erickson said, noting the fairs provide backpacks, pens and other essentials.
Commissioners also flagged a need for musical instruments: Vanderpooten said a music teacher requested quality used instruments for students and specifically mentioned Hunt Middle School as seeking donations. They advised residents with usable instruments to contact school administrators or the district office so teachers can be connected with donations.
