Summary
Commissioners said summer tours of the brand-new Burlington high school have drawn widespread local and out-of-state interest, with community members praising the building's design, geothermal systems and music spaces. The first day of school is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 26, and a community block party with all-day tours is set for Aug. 22.

Polly Erickson, Ward 7 school board commissioner, said buses of alumni, prospective students and residents have been touring the new high school this summer and that reactions have been enthusiastic. "The excitement is palpable," Erickson said, adding that modifications and finishing touches—unwrapping auditorium chairs, unpacked band instruments and visible geothermal systems—have impressed visitors.
The commissioners said the new building has attracted interest from neighboring districts and even visitors from other states. Erickson noted student-produced materials and online guides; "some of the high school students made a gorgeous video with Town Meeting TV and Claire Woll, the chair of the board," she said. Commissioners encouraged families to attend a full day of tours and the block party planned for Aug. 22, and reminded the public that the first day of classes is Aug. 26.
