Following executive session, Los Lunas council directs settlement talks and approves multiple hires
Summary
After an executive session the council directed Village attorneys to negotiate condemnation settlements and to negotiate a relocation agreement with PNM. The board also approved five hires — a police officer, IT assistant systems administrator, zoning inspector, and two payroll & benefits specialists — each by 3–0 votes.
The Board of Trustees entered executive session at 7:11 PM and reconvened at about 8:28 PM. Mayor Charles Griego reported the council had discussed litigation with the Village attorney and provided direction to negotiate settlement offers in condemnation cases (VLL v. Roy D. Mercer; VLL v. Crowley; VLL v. Prewitt). The council also directed staff to negotiate a relocation agreement with Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM).
Following the closed session, the council approved a slate of personnel hires recommended by the mayor. The hires recorded in the minutes were: Robert Ferreyra as a police officer; Emily Flores as Assistant Systems Administrator in Information Technology; Michael Montoya as Zoning & Development Inspector in Planning; and RayAnna Benevidez and Demiree Moore as Payroll & Benefits Specialists in Finance. Each hire was approved on a recorded 3–0 vote.
Minutes note that the council provided negotiation direction to the Village attorney on litigation and PNM matters but did not record settlement terms; personnel appointments were approved by vote and will be processed through standard hiring procedures.
