Public Works Director Michael Jaramillo and Molzen Corbin representative Wyatt Kartchner reported construction progress on the Los Lunas Boulevard extension project, including roadway work, paving, curb and gutter installation, and bridge construction across the Rio Grande. Favorable river conditions allowed bridge work to advance ahead of schedule, staff said.
They presented Change Order #2 to address additional excavation of unsuitable materials, detour pavement modifications, revised bridge pile depths, storm drain modifications, testing requirements and material price adjustments. The change order represents an increase of approximately $453,000 before tax; staff said savings in other areas have kept the overall contract about $1 million below the original bid amount. Council approved the change order on a 3–0 vote.
The minutes record continued on-site progress and that construction remains within budget expectations despite the specific change-order increase. Staff did not present a new total contract value in the minutes but described the net position relative to the original bid.
