Two council departures leave multiple seats open; town outlines petition deadlines

Mayor Lasis announced changes to the town council leadership and upcoming elections as part of an opening set of council remarks. The mayor urged residents interested in running to pick up nominating petitions at the town clerk's office and noted the signature requirements: "25 signatures for council and 50 signatures for mayor," with petitions due back to the clerk's office by Aug. 24, the mayor said. She also said the council will appoint a new mayor pro tem at the next meeting and that the vacancy schedule will leave two partial terms plus three full-term council seats and the mayor's seat on the November ballot. "So please, consider stepping up and serving your community," Mayor Lasis said.
