The Planning and Development Committee reviewed a proposal to replace a 2-inch galvanized water line on Hudson Street so the city can build eight new homes under the Welcome Home Ohio program. Chair Alan Swank said the small existing line could provide insufficient fire protection and that it would be irresponsible to put new homes in place without an upgraded main; he asked for a $400,000 appropriation from the water fund to complete the work as soon as this fall.
Mayor Larry Patterson said the administration also plans to pursue a neighborhood redevelopment tax-increment financing (TIF) district tied to the development so that city infrastructure costs could be recovered over a 10-year period as property values rise. The project will include a new sidewalk and demolition of an old Hudson Street building; members expressed broad support for moving the item forward at next week's meeting.
