Roxbury committee approves temporary kitchen use for Roxbury Roots

The Roxbury Village School Committee voted unanimously July 29 to grant Roxbury Roots temporary use of the Community Hall and kitchen for food preparation and community suppers.
During public comment, Jillian Abraham described the proposal’s scope and logistics: “Roots proposed use would be about 3 days per week per month, and request is for 9 months.” The plan would also allow locked storage in the nurse’s office for Roots equipment and use of the RVS library for future workshops and food-preservation programming; Roots intends to use Community Harvest donations and plug in a refrigerator/freezer for short-term storage. Committee members discussed rent benchmarks (a referenced suggestion of $15–$20 per square foot and an MRPS lease figure of about $18/sq ft) and agreed the spaces should remain available to other users when Roots is not using them.
Heidi Albright moved, Judy Lusk seconded to grant Roots use of the Community Hall and Kitchen for prep and community suppers; the motion passed 7-0-0. Jillian Abraham will submit dates and times in advance to avoid scheduling conflicts. The committee said it will finalize a standardized building-use and rental policy before advertising other spaces for rent.
