Pipestone council approves naloxone cabinet at community library, seeks broader access

The council approved a memorandum of understanding with Southwest Health and Human Services to install and maintain a public naloxone (Narcan) wall cabinet at the Miners Community Library. Council members said the device would be stored in a locked cabinet and available through library staff; maintenance, expiration checks and restocking would be coordinated with the partner agency.
Council members argued that naloxone access is comparable to public-access automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and discussed placing cabinets wherever AEDs exist (city hall, rec center, courthouse) to maximize access. "It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not be able to have access to it," a council member said. The motion to partner with Southwest Health and Human Services and move forward with the installation passed by voice vote.
