Presiding Commissioner Monroe opened the meeting and said the county would start the 2027 budget process with the courts: "our focus is on, starting our budget process for this year, and and we always do the courts 1st," Monroe said. The commission moved and approved the consent agenda, which included the auditor's monthly report.
Monroe said commissioners should be "creative" in light of anticipated state cuts and asked county staff and department heads to prepare plans for the coming budget cycle. Commissioners asked the auditor for historical actuals and for staff to prepare specific proposals tied to program costs and timelines. The commission agreed to hold follow‑up meetings in late August through October to refine program proposals and pacing of expenditures.
