The Wayne County Commissioners voted March 26 to apply to the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) for a grant to fund a countywide feasibility study of emergency medical services. Commissioner Brian W. Smith said the need for a study emerged after multiple meetings with township officials and emergency-service volunteers.
Commissioner Jocelyn Cramer, who seconded the motion, said neighboring counties including Wyoming and Erie have conducted similar studies. She noted that legal authority for EMS remains at the municipal level but said "an overall look at the situation countywide can be productive," adding the study could help municipalities understand how services are interconnected. The motion to apply for the grant carried.
