Russell Hooper said Green Acres pickleball fencing is complete and lighting installation will start next week; Hillcrest playground crews began work with an expected two-week initial schedule and court lighting was projected for early September. Hooper also described a recent irrigation pump and electrical issue that temporarily reduced park watering but said systems are back in operation.
Zoo staff (Stephanie) described animal introductions (capybaras Lucas and Peggy), recent events and fundraising efforts and discussed a planned barn project for an animal named Jerica. Stephanie also noted the city’s budget constraints had led to postponement of a planned flamingo exhibit; she said earlier estimates for nine flamingos were about $110,000. Recreation staff (Denise) reported facility repairs (roof/HVAC and bleacher seat replacements), the start of a pickleball league (21 players, $1,050 in fees) and summer camp revenues of $13,000, while flagging payment and registration challenges. Staff said they will continue to refine operations and pursue appropriate funding.
