Leonardtown staff outline utilities work on Route 245, water-well testing and sidewalk project

Town staff updated the council on several utility and infrastructure projects. Staff said SMECO has notified property owners that utility work on Route 245 (Hollywood Road) will start by the end of the month; those relocations must be completed before a state-funded sidewalk project proceeds.
Staff also said the town is awaiting Maryland Department of the Environment testing before it can bring a well and water tower fully online and that wastewater treatment-plant expansion work has paused while programming and close-out tasks are completed. Officials said utility coordination is ongoing with state highway and private providers and that some work will be staged to allow certain systems (water well) to come online earlier than other components.
