Village schedules April 20 public meeting on proposed battery storage project

The Highland Falls Board scheduled an informational meeting for 7 p.m. on April 20 at the senior center to discuss a proposed battery energy storage system that the company has proposed for a location near village infrastructure.
Mayor Mike DeSalvo said the previously proposed project in a residential area had been dropped but the company asked whether a village site might be viable. The board said the proposal is preliminary and that the developer agreed to pay for a specialist from Collier Engineering to attend the session and answer technical and safety questions. VRI and village staff will also attend to address water-plant adjacency concerns.
Trustees emphasized that the public session is an opportunity for residents to pose technical and safety questions before the board considers any final agreement. The meeting is informational; no final approvals were made at the April 6 session.
