Students report empathy exercises, community service and competition wins at Jericho board meeting

Najal Cunningham and Aria Thar, sixth‑grade student council representatives, told the board that empathy is the SEL theme for December and described NESTS activities planned for Dec. 23; they said student council fundraisers will support a visit to the Ronald McDonald House.
“Empathy is our SEL theme of the month,” Najal Cunningham said, and representatives outlined bake sales and a food drive to support Long Island Cares alongside an upcoming student visit to the Ronald McDonald House.
High school student council co‑president Emma Zhu reported that a fashion show raised more than $4,500 for Cohen Children’s Hospital, that the toy drive donated hundreds of gifts, and that several students advanced in debate and STEM competitions. She also previewed spirit days and other winter events before break.
Board members and administrators thanked students and PTA volunteers and noted school will resume Jan. 5 following the winter break.
