Students tout state honors, research awards and community fundraising

Student council representatives briefed the board on a string of academic and extracurricular achievements across the district this month.
Karina Jin and Rayon Asif reported that "U.S. News and the World Report recognized Jericho Middle School as the number 1 open enrollment middle school in the state," and they thanked teachers for supporting student success. The pair described an 8th-grade trip to Washington, D.C., that included a ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery and a visit from a member of Congress.
At the high school, co-presidents Emma Zu and Dev Lukani said the Tennis with the Teachers fundraiser raised $768 for the Moore Foundation and a blood drive collected 42 pints. Students also earned statewide recognition in the New York State Archives Student Research Awards, and dozens of seniors are submitting research to national competitions.
Students said these activities reflect broad participation across departments and community partnerships; the board and PTA representatives offered thanks to staff and volunteers.
