Council urged to fund 11th Street sewer addition after recurring backups

City Manager Richard Braithwaite described several mandated sewer projects and said the separated sewer fund currently shows a revenue shortfall. He said the proposed work includes two monitoring wells (about $12,000), dredging of sewer ponds required by regulators, and an 11th Street sewer addition intended to stop recurring backups affecting downstream residents linked to the Irvintown private sewer system.
Director Joe Massa said the 11th Street project is urgent to resolve chronic backups, and Braithwaite reported receiving bids with Rudy Dome submitting the lowest. Councilmember Denise Taylor characterized the matter as a health and safety issue that needs immediate attention. Staff did not take final action at the workshop but indicated the project will be prioritized in the final budget.
