Board of County Health authorizes application for $27,500 maternal‑child health grant

The Riley County Board recessed into the Board of County Health Aug. 10 and heard a grant request from Interim Health Director David Adams and interim maternal and child health coordinator Tammy Feldkamp. Adams described the application to the Memorial Hospital Association, noting the grant supports prenatal education, postpartum care, home‑visiting outreach and immunization services.
Adams told commissioners the program is a yearly grant and said, "it's a fairly large grant of $27,500," laying out components including a prenatal education series (the March of Dimes "Becoming a Mom" six‑part series), maternal and infant postpartum services, home visiting/outreach and immunization clinic support for low‑income families. Feldkamp and Adams said they reduced the requested amount slightly from last year due to leftover supplies and the development of new partnerships with clinic nurses to provide some services.
The board moved and seconded to approve the request to apply for Memorial Hospital Association grant funds; the motion carried on a voice vote. Commissioners asked whether other items could be added to the request and Adams said staff would explore additional funding opportunities with leadership and partner organizations.
