At an Aug. 10 policy committee meeting, Dorchester 02 staff presented a package of policy updates covering criminal background checks, hiring contractors, staff fringe benefits, supervision of instructional staff, support-staff compensation and a new district proprietary security license.
Ms. Graham, the committee's presenter, told members the criminal record-check policy "has not been updated since 2010" and that highlighted edits in the draft show where the district recommends departures from the state model. Board members asked clarifying questions about procurement thresholds and the mechanics of contractor approvals.
The meeting closed with public comment: one commenter urged the district to reopen its bullying policy and hold a community workshop; another parent, Anna Llewellyn, and a teacher raised concerns about student device use and AI-related grading issues. Chair confirmed public comment would be taken at the end of the session and adjourned the meeting when comments concluded.
