Community members ask leaders to discuss ICE activity; students plan school protest

Paul Fiutak told the Board he attended a community meeting about ICE actions and asked that the Village and Town boards and the police chief meet to discuss the possibility of an ICE event and then communicate back to the community that those discussions occurred. Trustee Zapata said she and the Mayor have already met with the chief and lieutenant and emphasized the need to coordinate with county officials.

Students Quinn Reilly (a junior at the high school) and Ava Williamson said they organized a student‑run protest at the school sidewalk on Elizabeth Street, planned for the next day. Trustee Zapata told Quinn she is "exercising her constitutional right and nobody should be giving them a hard time for it," and Chief Heggelke encouraged community members who attend and learn about local discussions to help communicate the Village’s coordination efforts. The Board did not take formal action on this public‑comment request but acknowledged staff and chiefs coordinate with county partners and have met directly with ICE in past regional discussions.
