A proponent addressing the board said the group collected 1,239 signatures in three weeks to place a proposal for five county supervisors on the ballot. The speaker estimated some signatures might be invalid and proposed public forums in early October to present both sides of the issue.
"We were able to secure 1,239 signatures in 3 weeks," the speaker said, and added that they expect roughly a small number could be ruled invalid during review. The proponent urged the board to participate in or attend proposed forums so voters can hear viewpoints from both sides ahead of the election window.
The board acknowledged the petition and said staff would follow up on procedural steps for placing the initiative before the election.
