"We started as a pop up shop in Narberth, in the heart of Narberth at our little American Family Market grocery store," she said, and added the move to a permanent location happened about five months later. Kimberly said the build-out used rescued and reclaimed materials and generated minimal construction waste.
She recounted the company timeline: early household experiments in waste reduction beginning in 2013, cofounding Shift in 2019, a pandemic pause, restarting in 2021 and a January 2022 public opening. That history framed the shop as a locally rooted small business with sustainability built into its operations.
Kimberly said the store seeks to model low-waste practices for the community while supporting about 100 local vendors and offering in-person programming.
