JMU construction will shift Godwin Hall polling access; board told ADA route will be closer to elevator

Director Mark Vink told the board that construction in the Godwin Hall front lot will force Election Day parking into the bus-depot area and that James Madison University staff plan to open additional parking and provide signage directing voters.
Vink said the change may be an inconvenience for some drivers but could improve access for voters who need elevators: "Having our ADA voters on the other side of the building is better because that's the side that the elevator's on." He added the plan will create a through lane and return lane near the bookstore and that the office expects chiefs and officers to use the overflow parking for check-ins.
Board members raised the possibility of neighborhood complaints about changed parking routines; Vink said only about 100 registered voters live in the small adjacent neighborhood and estimated that perhaps 30–40 of those might drive on Election Day, with many others likely choosing early voting or mail ballots.
