The Harrisonburg City Electoral Board voted to approve a preliminary slate of 12 election officers for Election Day after Director of Elections Mark Vink presented the names and the board discussed the new party-notice process.
"So moved," the chair said during the motion to approve the officers, and the board recorded vocal ayes. Vink told the board those 12 officers have been incorporated into the current list and that the new procedure (sending the proposed slate in advance to party chairs) has sped up confirmation compared with past cycles.
Vink said he sent the required pre-processing notice to the party chairs and that the Republican chair replied with no objection; the Democratic chair did not reply by the deadline but the office interpreted the lack of objection as agreement under the procedure. Vink described the approval as preliminary and said Katrina would print and circulate the finalized list for members to review by email.
The board set the next meeting for Oct. 20 to continue election preparations. No formal objections were raised during the recorded voice vote.
