Village reports progress securing private wells as interim water supply option

During public comment Joel Stern told the board the village is pursuing private wells to augment supply while the metering and system improvements proceed. Stern said the Capitol Hill well produces approximately 350 gallons per minute and two nearby wells produce roughly 130+ gpm each; he said negotiations with private owners are advancing and the village is working daily with county officials and state agencies on required sanitary testing and approvals. "We have a 72 hour test, the sanitary test and then we have to go thru the process of approvals which is taking time with the county," Stern said.
Stern added that county rules constrain whether the village can lease access, require ownership, or accept other arrangements; he said staff are exploring options and will continue discussions with the state Department of Health and the DEC. The board did not make a final decision on acquisition at the July 14 meeting and noted the approvals process and county requirements will govern timing and allowable terms.
