Council hears report on Guskey Pond Dam erosion and engineering review

The First Selectman told the council that heavy rainfall in late July caused an older section of the Guskey Pond Dam to give way, impacting the Putatuck River’s edge and nearby residents. He said the Town Engineer prepared a design-and-build plan that had been approved previously by the Army Corps of Engineers and that the town monitored earlier construction for beaver-related issues.
"A decision will be made if a peer review is needed as this design was approved by the Army Corps of Engineers and has been contacted," the First Selectman said. The town engineer is conducting a complete investigation and reporting to the First Selectman; the council said it will keep neighboring towns informed as the work progresses.
