Board approves district-run Universal Pre-K at Chazy Central Rural Elementary for 2026–27

The Chazy Union Free School District Board of Education voted on Feb. 10, 2026 to establish a district-operated Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) program at Chazy Central Rural Elementary School, effective for the 2026–2027 school year. The board approved a resolution that locates the classroom in the current preschool room and authorizes the superintendent to take necessary implementation steps.
Trustee Craig Giroux moved to approve the resolution and Trustee Lee Barcomb seconded; the motion passed unanimously. The resolution states that the Chazy After School Program Pre-Kindergarten will no longer operate within the elementary school and that district registration forms and procedures will be updated to reflect the new UPK program. Superintendent Rob McAuliffe was authorized to notify relevant agencies and stakeholders and to take actions necessary to implement the program.
The board cited New York State Education Law as the statutory authority for establishing UPK. The vote followed the reading of the resolution and routine procedural motions. The program’s physical location, the change to existing after-school programming, and the 2026–27 effective date were recorded in the adopted resolution.
