Delegate secures $5,000 grants for two schools; incoming superintendent to be sworn Aug. 12

Board member Malia Huddle said Delegate Cliff Hayes secured two $5,000 grants—one for Hugo Owens Middle School and one for Carver Intermediate—and thanked him on behalf of the district.
"Those grants will go to Hugo Owens Middle School and to Carver Intermediate. Each school will have the opportunity to use that $5,000 however they see fit to best benefit their staff and students," Huddle said. Chair Kim Scott thanked the community partners who support Chesapeake Public Schools and recognized that the meeting marked Superintendent Dr. Cotton's final regular board meeting.
Chair Scott introduced incoming Superintendent Dr. Doug Brubaker and said he will take his oath of office on August 12; the board encouraged the public to attend informal meet-and-greet sessions that Dr. Brubaker will hold at the district's high schools. The meeting adjourned after brief acknowledgements and celebrations of district events.
